The compact Petty Knife is a small and handy allround tool in your kitchen. It features a pointy and narrow japanese blade, ideal to cut and shape fruits and vegetables as well as fish, herbs or meats. The extra sharp and compact blade allows for fast and precise work.
The chestnut wood grip has been covered in 4 layers of black base urushi lacquer (wet sanded with #1000 grid sandpaper after each application and curing), the next layer was done with clear urushi, hologram glitter has been sprinkled into the wet laquer creating the "Stars". In the next steps the gold areas and where handpainted in urushi. After that powdergold has been applicated onto the still sticky lacquer, gilding the gold areas. Further layers in clear urushi where painted on and cured. Once the urushi was completey cured, the grip was wet sanded until the black urushi became visible in spots under the gilding. For the finishing kijo-mi urushi got applicated on the grip and wiped off with filtering paper. After curing for additional 24hrs, the grip got polished to a glasslike shine. Length of the production process: 2 months.
